Entre Indígenas- Who is Ashlee, also known as ¨The Mullet Mama¨?

Ashlee- I’ve always been into fashion and music since I was a child. My mom owned her own multi brand men’s designer store before and while pregnant with me. After having me, she religiously took me on her business trips to buy clothes for her store for the next season.

I always was styling my friends growing up, doing their hair and make up for homecoming while I made other plans. I didn’t think I could have a successful career doing something I loved to do. 3 1/2 years ago I decided to go to school for hair, makeup, and fashion and everything started to take off for me while I was in school.

E- Is Ashlee the same person as ¨The Mullet Mama¨, or are
there differences?

A- I believe that people see me as “Mullet Mama” differently online than I am in person. I really couldn’t tell you why either, because I have a very goofy and silly personality. I don’t hold that side back from social media either because that’s genuinely me!

E- How and when did the idea of creating Pozer Magazine come about?

A- The idea of Pozer Magazine came about around June of last year. I noticed how there wasn’t many female focused magazines on women that ride, make music, or generally a boss at what they do! Doesn’t mean I discriminate against men from the magazine because it’s about everyone coming together. I’ve been through a lot of set backs that come with owning my business, but I don’t regret one second of starting this vision. I’ve had sleepless nights behind the computer trying to put all the pages together for the magazine and I’m beyond excited to show you guys. Look out for the release at the end of July this year!

E- What is your source of inspiration?

A- Where to even begin with this! A lot of my inspiration comes from events that occur in my life, the people I meet, my friends, and music. My 3 favorite people for my style
inspiration is Ritchie Blackmore, Joan Jett, and of course Lemmy. The inspiration behind the name POZER for the magazine is a funny story. My friend Jessica and I were at lunch one day and just started making fun of people who call people posers, and in the end just started calling each other POSERS, but with a “Z”.

Real life situations always inspire me the most.

E- Where and how would you like to see yourself 10 years from

A- In 10 years I see POZER being a household name. Most importantly, I see myself on a ranch, huge property with my dog Muddy, with some goats, chickens, a few more dogs, a garage full of Harleys, and a front yard with a few classic cars.

E- Your best quality and your worst defect:

A- One of my better qualities is that I’m determined as hell. No one can get in my way of my goals and dreams I have for myself. When I’m putting a shoot together for the magazine that I’ve envisioned, I will move mountains to make sure it’s exactly how I wanted it to look on photo.

My procrastination is definitely my worst quality about me, but it usually works in my favor. I’ve put things for the very last minute since I was in grade school. The pressure and stress it puts leads me to create my best work, and I’m sure there’s a lot of creative people that can relate to that!

E- You only have two days left, what would you do?

A- I’d probably pack up, hit the road with my dog Muddy, head
to Yosemite, and spend my last days with him drinking beers by the river.

E- The craziest thing you have done:

A- Right before I started working on the magazine, I randomly decided to hit the road with a couple friends to Utah, then Arizona and went back down to Zion. That was a whole week. Right after, I went to Washington for another week to meet some friends. I was buying clothes along the way since I barley had time to pack.

Might not be crazy, but every spur of the moment trip I’ve taken make unforgettable memories.

E- A success and a failure.

A- I don’t really believe I’ve had a failure. Anything that
has happened to me that could be perceived as a failure, only has lead to the success I have now!

I’m 27 years old, running my own business with no help except for an executive assistant I just brought on since the work load has been insane for just one person! Every “failure” I’ve had has only helped me learn what I did wrong in the past, and what to do differently in the future.

E- With which known person would you take a trip through

A- Hands down Joan Jett. I think it was expected of me to say!

– A film: The Graduate (1967)

– A song: Out On The Western Plain – Rory Gallagher

– A drink:  Gin & Tonic with 2 limes
