Desert Mama- Who is Lindsey and where can we find her?

Lindsey- I am Lindsey Voorhees . I live in Los Angeles and I make stained glass .

D- How long have you been working with stained glass and when did the love for this art come about?

L- I started in December of 2014 . I had been in a mental / creative rut and was searching for a new outlet to fulfill my time.

One evening I was watching the sunset through my window and I thought to myself “how cool would it be to have a stained glass window instead?” so I went online and almost if by fate there was a stained glass supply shop that offered classes literally a mile away from my house.

D- Who taught you how to do this?

L- A wonderful woman named Bertha… Although I still feel like I learn something new with each piece I make.

The beauty with learning a craft like this is you never stop evolving and figuring out new tricks and tools.

D-What inspires you, and what other artist currently working do you admire?

L- There is so much beauty in this world. Everything in nature, vintage tattoos, music, museums, and motorcycles.

I am so lucky to surround myself with such a creative and driven circle. My friend Twiggy is one of my closest friends and I admire all that she does.

D- The part you love the most of what you do, and the worst part:

L- I love the excitement and the butterflies I get before I start a piece I’m stoked on & when I’m putting the final polish on and I get to see the fruits of my labor.

The worst would be my own doubts I get overanalyzing and criticizing my work .

D- Do you sell your own designs, or do you work on particular orders if they want something specific too?

L- I do both , as best I can I try to balance commissions and my own creations.

Making my own pieces give me the creative freedom to express myself and my style of work, but also taking someones idea and turning it into tangible piece of art that they get to cherish and see everyday makes me so happy.

I love knowing I have pieces of my all over this world .

D- Show us your best work by now:

I love this piece I made for Classic Rock Couture in 2017

D- Where and how would you like to see yourself 10 years from now?

L- I would love to be living someplace where I’m surrounded by inspiring scenery. If I could walk out my door and be motivated by beauty and nature that would be heavenly.

I have so much more to learn and hope to have time to learn more trades to evolve my art.

D- Your happiest childhood memory:

L- It would have to be all the things I hated at the time haha.

My mom was very big on history and culture. She would take my sister and I to museums, plays, the symphony as kids almost kicking and screaming, but in retrospect I am so happy she did. We traveled a lot and I got worldly experience at a young age.

D- Your best quality and your worst defect:

L- I’m very hard on myself and very self critical, comparing yourself to someone else’s journey has no reflection on you and where you are in life.

I’m best towards other people, compassion and empathy (almost to a fault) are my best traits.

D- How is a perfect day in your life:

L- Oh my god so many perfect days I can imagine… But a perfect regular day would be to wake up early with a strong cup of coffee, get my ass kicked by my dear friend and personal trainer Candy Hoke (body by candy fitness), have a productive day at my work bench and then meet friends for a delish meal and cocktails . and in bed before midnight hahaha

Or laying topless with a cocktail in hand on a white sand beach in paradise sounds pretty perfect too…?

D- A success and a failure:

L- Success is every order I receive and a time someone recognizes me for my work.

Failure would be to lose my drive and momentum.
